A COLLABORATION WITH COMPA GRILLO TO LAUNCH THE NEW GENERATION OF DESERT ARTISTS
- SPECIAL EVENT HELD IN HERMOSILLO, SONORA TO CELEBRATE THE PARTNERSHIP
- FIRST ARTIST SIGNINGS UNVEILED
Fono, the music label known for championing talent with unique identity, announces a new strategic alliance with Desierto Bravo, a label focused on discovering, developing, and launching the next generation of artists from Mexico’s northwest region.
This new division is born out of a collaboration with Abraham Noé Reyes Valdez, better known as Compa Grillo, one of the most influential producers of the new wave of regional Mexican music. His work has been recognized by the Latin GRAMMYs and The Recording Academy, and he has collaborated with artists such as Carín León, Kany García, Matisse, Cornelio Vega y su Dinastía, Carlos Rivera, Gabito Ballesteros, Kenia OS, Walker Hayes, Xavi, Lila Downs, Piso 21, Luis Mexía, Hombres G, Kane Brown, and more.
Desierto Bravo was founded by Compa Grillo and César Ortiz with the vision of creating a space where local talent could develop from its roots. That vision gained new strength when they joined forces with Fono, giving life to this new label dedicated to showcasing emerging artists with authentic, diverse, and globally resonant proposals.
To celebrate the launch, a special event was held in Hermosillo, Sonora, which included a press conference announcing the alliance and the official presentation of the first signed artists: El Niño de Sonora, Plazencia, Rubaa, Jesús Durán, Paloma Ledgard, Krazy Flow ML, and Los Conin’s.
As part of their social commitment, Fono and Desierto Bravo also announced the launch of free weekly guitar workshops for the local Hermosillo community, to be held every Wednesday. These classes aim to bring music closer to younger generations, nurture local talent, and provide creative tools to those without access to formal music education.
The event also featured the announcement of the open call for the third edition of their emerging artist project, now titled Mexa Indie by Fono, focused on discovering fresh voices from the northern region.
The evening concluded with a live showcase where the new artists performed in front of local media and industry partners.
THE FIRST ARTISTS FROM THIS NEW ERA:
El Niño de Sonora
Eduardo Campa found his musical identity through his family environment and a corrido that gave him the nickname he now uses artistically. His career took a turn in 2024 after collaborating with Adriel Favela. Today, he presents his debut album Desde el Desierto, a project that honors his Sonoran roots.
Plazencia
Francisco Javier Plascencia Villegas is a singer-songwriter with pop sensibility and regional Mexican influence. He began writing songs at 16, inspired by artists like Reik, Matisse, and Bruno Mars. His music connects with audiences through honest emotions and personal storytelling.
Rubaa
Born in Hermosillo in 1996, Rubaa discovered music was in his blood after meeting his biological father—also a musician—at age 19. In 2022, after losing his mother to cancer, music became his way of healing and stepping up as a pillar for his younger sisters. Every beat he produces and every lyric he writes carries her memory.
Jesús Durán
Originally from Hermosillo, Jesús is the eldest of four siblings. At just 15, he left home to build a life on his own. That sense of strength and independence is deeply reflected in his raw, honest, and experience-rooted sound.
Paloma Ledgard
Born in Hermosillo, Rocío Paloma Morales Ledgard is a classically trained vocalist and architect. Her powerful tone and jazz/soul influences have taken her to perform with philharmonic orchestras across Mexico and currently as part of Carín León’s vocal ensemble. Her academic background and vocal versatility make her one of the most well-rounded voices of her generation.
Krazy Flow ML
Eduardo Olivas, known as Krazy, is part of the northern region’s rising urban wave. With roots in reggaeton, rap, and Mexican trap, his music combines spirituality, social commentary, and everyday storytelling. His creative consistency and digital presence have built him a loyal fan base.
Los Conin’s
This band from Hermosillo is made up of five young talents — Ángel, Ramsés, Hiram, Yuki, and Ocaño — who fuse traditional corridos with a modern touch. Their narrative-driven style reflects the northern reality from a fresh, generational lens.
Desierto Bravo is more than just a production platform — it’s an extension of Fono’s spirit: Música, no borders. A space for creation, collaboration, and artistic growth where the authentic voices of the desert rise freely and powerfully, turning local stories into global anthems.
